Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, with over 30,000 people killed annually, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).  Further reports indicate that over 2.3 million adults received emergency medical treatment as the result of being injured in a motor vehicle accident in 2009.

Often overlooked is the economic impact from these auto accident related deaths.  A large study conducted by the Center for Disease Control in 2005 showed that the lifetime costs of crash-related deaths were $70 billion in 2005.  Right here at home, New Jersey residents accounted for $651 million, and Pennsylvania residents accounted for a staggering $1.52 billion.

Luckily, the CDC considers motor vehicle injuries a “winnable battle.”  They strive to improve the safety of the vehicles themselves, and help at risk groups such as teenage and elderly drivers.  Unfortunately, there is still a long way to go before motor vehicle accidents are a thing of the past, so until then we must deal with the reality that someone we love may suffer an injury or death from one of the over 5 million annual police reported accidents.

If you or someone you love has been involved in a motor vehicle accident and suffered a personal injury, you may be able to obtain compensation for your lifetime costs, including: medical costs, on-going care, damaged property, and loss of income.  You may even be able to receive compensation for damages that are more difficult to assign a monetary value to, such as pain and suffering, loss of experiences, and emotional distress.
